Bio

  • Dr. Gopala Sasie Rekha is a Lecturer in Criminology and Programme Leader for the MSc in Applied Criminology at the University of Winchester, with over 16 years of experience in academia. She holds a PhD from the University of Southampton, where her research focused on the issues of human trafficking in Indonesia. Dr. Rekha has taught at institutions in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Myanmar, and previously served as the Program Director for the Paris Graduate School of Business at the Malaysian campus under Mantissa College, where she gained extensive leadership and program management experience.
  • As a critical researcher on human rights issues, Dr. Rekha’s work explores not only human rights but also the social and cultural dimensions of modern slavery, business ethics, and corporate social responsibility. Her research analyses the impact of these issues on both individuals and communities, addressing complex social challenges. Dr. Rekha is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in the UK and has published in prominent journals such as Trends in Organized Crime. She is currently writing a monograph for Routledge on sex trafficking and forced labour. She primarily employs qualitative research methods, including interviews, focus group discussions, group interviews, and observational techniques.
  • Recently, Dr. Rekha has been approached to lead a UK Science and Technology (S&T) project on policing’s Areas of Research Interest (ARIs), expanding her influence in social impact research study. She also holds advisory, external examiner, and editorial roles with several academic bodies.
